Jenny is a Florida certified teacher with extensive training in Reading Recovery intervention strategies, as well as a former public school first grade teacher and K-3 Literacy Coach.

FAQ's

-Is my child too young to be screened?

Screenings are best done with children 6 and older. These screeners are most appropriate for children who are just beginning to read, through children reading on a 3rd grade level, no matter the age.

-How long will the session take?

The screening takes around 30-45 minutes, depending on your child and how many breaks they need.

-What materials will be used?

Depending on your child and the information you would like to have, we will either use an untimed phonics screening or DIBELS one-minute screeners (or a combination of both).

-What is DIBELS?

DIBELS is a series of screeners used to quickly assess the fluency of early reading skills.  It is backed by more than 20 years of research and development and is designed to identify and progress monitor students at-risk for future reading difficulties.

-What will the results and recommendations tell me?

Depending on your child's ability and the information you need, the results you will receive will show you your child's strengths and areas to work on in beginning reading skills like: segmenting sounds, letter naming, phonics skills, and reading fluency. For instance, if a child is reading words accurately but very slowly, the next steps would be strategies to help your child gain speed and fluency to bolster comprehension.

-What will happen today when I check out?

You will be taken to an online calendar to book your appointment and enter info about your child. We will reach out to you via email to get any additional information or to address any questions you may have.
